We had a great time taking our first-ever Photo walk! You don't know what a Photowalk is? Basically, we had 60 minutes to shoot our best photossomewhere in the area of Sprint Center and the Power & Light District. Then, we processed and posted photos using Adobe's new Photoshop Express online service -- you can tweak your pix and get them exactly where you want them. Adobe is giving everyone who tries the service a free 2GB storage account.
The winner of our contest (for $2,100 worth of Adobe software) was Nick Schale who put together a short video montage of the evening -- he chose Adobe Production Premium CS3 as his prize. Derek Berdine was runner-up and will win the new Acrobat 9 Extended edition. Special thanks to Lena Cardell who provided her loft for our after-party. Tek Systems provided pizza and drinks, and of course Adobe provided the prizes!

Dee Sadler presented some tips and tricks on InDesign and Illustrator -- that is, before the tornado sirens forced us out of the building. We'll continue more of this good juicy information in upcoming informational meetings!

Bryan Kearney has extensive background in television graphics including WDAF-TV in Kansas City and has designed for other digital devices, along with being a CSS guru. Bryan presented on translating your great work onto widely-varying screens. We took a into Adobe DeviceCentral to learn about cellphone/smartphone screen design, and learned some strategies for bigger pixel clumpings such as HD video and set-top box interfaces.

Dee Sadler presented a "did you know" session about Ilustrator CS3. We focused on learning the features of Illustrator and how most of the people who use it -- even every day -- don't use all its features. Dee showed us some little-known features, and made sure the Appearance palette was crystal clear. We also learned how to take your files into Flash from Illustrator.

John Collins was our winner of CS3 Production Premimium in July. He was kind enough to show us a couple of recent shorts he has worked on and using AfterEffects demonstrate how the effects were created. John showed how to combine Photoshop and AfterEffects together to construct an image in 3d space and put a camera into the scene to animate a shot.

We showed the DVD's from Peachpit's booth at Photoshop World and MacWorld.

Our special request for a Color Correction and Soft Proofing meeting was fulfilled when Doug Bell from Hallmark gave a great presentation about using the various color-management profiles within Adobe products to get an accurate picture of how your final output will look. His main points were "calibrate and validate" your monitor on a regular basis, and remember that color profiles are "just like glasses" -- you can use them to see like your client will see, but they are nondestructive to your files. It was a great evening and unlocked some of the mysteries of color management. Thanks, Doug, for a very practical presentation!
